Twinning Partnership links Nursing Faculty 2012 - 2017

World Services and Winona State University School of Nursing (Minnesota) recently completed a partnership with the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and Muhambili University to upgrade nursing curriculum in over 30 nursing schools throughout Tanzania.

Faculty from Winona State University and Muhambili University collaborated to strengthen nursing pre-service, in-service and continuing education programs with financial support from the American International Health Alliance. The partnership focused on upgrading curriculum which is administered in public nursing schools by the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Curriculum updates focused on ensuring that nursing students receive instruction in "best practice" nursing competencies, especially related to prevention, care and treatment of HIV/AIDS. In the future, Winona State volunteers hope to further develop the role of the nurse practitioner in the Tanzania health system and other activities to improve access to care - especially in rural areas.
